✨ Beauty Myths I Used to Believe In

By Minnie | Teen Blush

There’s sooo much beauty advice out there — on TikTok, YouTube, and from people at school — that it’s easy to get confused 😵‍💫
When I first started learning about skincare and makeup, I believed some things that I totally don’t anymore!
Let’s bust a few common beauty myths together 💥

Myth 1: Oily skin doesn’t need moisturiser

I used to think if I had oily or shiny skin, moisturiser would just make it worse.
WRONG! Not using moisturiser can actually make your skin produce even more oil, because it’s trying to fix the dryness.

What I do now:
I use a light, oil-free moisturiser every morning and night — it keeps my skin calm and balanced 💧

🧴 Try:

  • Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser
  • CeraVe PM Moisturising Lotion

Myth 2: You need a 10-step skincare routine

When I first started watching skincare videos, I thought I needed cleansers, toners, masks, serums, eye creams, AND more.
But nope! Most of us — especially teens — just need the basics.

What I do now:
I stick to a simple 3-step routine:
Cleanser ➜ Moisturiser ➜ SPF (in the morning). It works!

🌸 Bonus things like toners or serums are cool, but not necessary to start.

Myth 3: Spots mean you’re dirty

This one made me feel so bad when I had breakouts 😞 But guess what? Spots can come from hormones, stress, genetics, or products — not just bad hygiene.

What I do now:
I keep my skin clean, but I don’t blame myself when I get breakouts.
Spots are normal. So am I 💖

💬 Final Thoughts

We all start somewhere — and learning what doesn’t work is just as important as learning what does!
If you believed any of these myths too, don’t worry. You’re not alone 💕
